First race of the season lookahead - maverick cycling classic

We’re very excited to launch the 2021 season off with the Maverick Cycling Classic in Grand Junction, CO!

Looks like mid-50’s and sunny weather will greet our riders as they take on the downtown criterium on Saturday and the road race in the foothills on Sunday. The downtown criterium is a fast, 8 corner, pan flat course that has ample room for a breakaway to slip away and out of site of the pack! The road race is in the hilly foothills south east of Grand Junction. Our riders will be taking on a 16 mile circuit there (~1,800ft of elevation gain per lap) for a total of 84 miles.

Both of these courses have been used in recent years for Collegiate Cycling National Championships, so we’re excited to take on that caliber of a course. We’re expecting big results from our riders, as the majority of them have raced these courses with their collegiate teams in years past. Our roster includes riders who used to/are still apart of cycling teams at Colorado State University, Fort Lewis College, Colorado Mesa University, and Colorado School of Mines.

Our Roster

James Hilyer, Henry York, Peter Behm, Alex Marr, Brett Rindt, Tayne Andrade and Chaz Hogenauer

Our Competition
Fields have been capped at 75 riders, and we are expecting the race participant number to hit that limit. Full teams from Elevate-Webiplex Pro Cycling, Team CLIF Bar, and Landis Cyclery/Trek mixed with collegiate squads from Colorado Mesa University and Fort Lewis College will provide for some tough, exciting racing!

Social Media

We’ll be posting updates from the races this weekend on our Instagram and Facebook pages, so make sure you are following them for the latest updates! We’re also planning a race recap video that will be posted to our Youtube Channel in the week after.
